Vehicle Crashes into Page High School
On August 26, 2014, at approximately 4:22 AM, members of the Page Police Department and Fire Department were dispatched to the Page High School on a call of a single vehicle accident.
Upon arrival on scene, the officers found that a gray Chevy Suburban had driven through the wall of the Page High School and was completely inside the building. The officers located the driver who was still in the vehicle.
The accident investigation revealed that the vehicle had been traveling north on Coppermine Road when it entered the High School property at a high rate of speed. The vehicle went through a large concrete and steel pole, proceeded through a large multi window frame assembly and came to rest inside a class room. The vehicle knocked over several table top islands which had water pipes connected to them. These water lines ruptured causing flooding in the classroom. The damage to the high school was estimated at $20,000.00.
The driver, identified as 47 year old Edsel Young of Kayenta, received minor cuts and scrapes from the crash and was treated and released at the scene by the Page Fire department medical units.
The investigation revealed that alcohol was a contributing factor in this accident.
Young was arrested on the following charges:
- Super Extreme DUI
- False Reporting to a Law Enforcement Officer
- Aggravated Criminal Damage
