Newly Certified K-9 gets Drug Bust First day on the Job

PAGE, AZ (December 21, 2015):On December 20, 2015 Page Police Officer Mat Reader worked the first shift with his newly certified K-9 Boykin.

That night, at approximately 8:47 p.m., Officer Cody Kruse checked welfare on a vehicle parked with its hazard lights on near US Highway 89 and Ridgeway Drive in Page, AZ.  Officer Kruse noticed the smell of marijuana from the vehicle.  Officer Reader and K-9 Boykin arrived on scene to assist.  K-9 Boykin alerted on the vehicle indicating the presence of the odor of illegal drugs. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 35-year-old Julio ZARAGOZA of Modesto, CA.  A search of the vehicle revealed over 25 grams of marijuana, 1.8 grams of a substance believed to be hash, a .40 caliber Glock handgun, drug paraphernalia, and a large sum of money.  Investigation revealed that ZARAGOZA was a convicted felon.  ZARAGOZA was charged with misconduct involving a weapon, misconduct involving a weapon while committing a felony, transporting marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a narcotic drug.
